The most common way they enter structures is via sewer system or drains. They typically come indoors in search or food and water. American cockroaches feed on a wide variety of plant and animal material.

American cockroaches are found worldwide. They live primarily outdoors but do not tolerate cold temperatures. Can be found in cracks and crevice of foundations and concrete, crawl spaces, commercial buildings, food processing plants, and animal rearing facilities.
They are most commonly found indoors in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, laundry rooms, larger commercial buildings, food processing plants, hospitals, etc., where they usually infest food storage and food preparation areas, boiler rooms, steam tunnels and basements.

American Cockroaches are dirty pests and can pose serious health threats. They pick up germs on their legs and body as they crawl through sewage and transfer them onto food and cooking surfaces. American cockroaches can spread over 33 kinds of bacteria including E. coli and Salmonella; parasitic worms; and other human pathogens. The urine and fecal droppings contain allergens known to invoke year-round allergy and asthma symptoms, especially in children.
