When Termite Tenting is Used
After inspection, our termite experts will always recommend the most efficient and cost-effective solution for your specific situation. There are a variety of methods that can be used to eliminate termite infestations, though termite tenting is the only treatment method that is guaranteed to eliminate 100% of a termite infestation.
Termite tenting or termite fumigation is recommended when a termite infestation has progressed into inaccessible areas of your structure or when there is a large infestation.
Termite Tenting Process
Termite tenting is a three-day process and specific preparation is needed to ensure a safe termite removal process. Our team is dedicated to assisting you through the entire process, every step of the way.
Preparing for Termite Tenting
The first step in preparing for termite tenting is to call our office at A-1 Bonded Termite to schedule a termite inspection, then you can pick a date. Once the tenting date is scheduled, you will have to make accommodation arrangements for your family, plants and pets. Nylofume bags will be shipped via UPS to your home and will need to be applied to food, animal feed, drugs, medicines, and tobacco. You may either bag these items or remove them completely from your structure.
A-1 Bonded Termite will notify the Gas Company of your termite tenting date and schedule the gas shut-off required. Our team will call you the night before at the designated contact number to provide an estimated time frame for arrival on the date of tenting.
A-1 Bonded Termite has downloadable resources to help you prepare for termite tenting. Download our preparation information here. If you have additional questions, please call our termite specialists at 714-502-9230.
Day 1 – Termite Tenting Setup
On day 1 of the termite tenting process, the gas company will arrive to turn off the gas to your home between 7 – 11:30am. We ask homeowners to prepare to be without gas as early as 7am and to remove people, plants and pets from your home. The termite tenting crew will arrive within an estimated time frame and will prepare to cover your structure with large tarps or tents.
The Licensee will meet with the homeowner to review specific details about the property, review the preparation, and inspect the interior to verify that the property is ready for tenting. The structure is then secured with secondary locks on all entryways and warning signs will be posted as required.
Once the interior is properly prepared and secured, the warning agent is applied, fumigant is released into the structure and the tarps will contain the fumigant for the specific amount of time required to completely eliminate the drywood termites.
Day 2 – Aeration
The termite tenting crew will arrive to the structure to ensure that all tarps are properly in place and sealed. Then, the crew will plug in fans, connect the exhaust tube and begin the aeration process.
Day 3 – Removal
Once the necessary aeration time has occurred, the crew will remove tarps and the Licensee will take air samples. Once the air sample readings are at or below target levels required by the chemical manufacturer, the Licensee will place a re-entry notice on the front door and secondary locks will be removed from the structure. The gas can be turned back on and the entire tenting process will be complete.
