Habits

Silverfish are fast moving nocturnal pests that tend to feed a wide variety of foods containing protein or carbohydrates. These items can include dried beef, flour, rolled oats, starch, paper items, cotton, sugar, glue, clothing and other linens. Without a food source and very high humidity, silverfish can live up to a year without food. Silverfish can do considerable damage to books and other paper products.

Habitat

Silverfish are found throughout the U.S. and are typically seen in moist, humid areas, such as boiler rooms, bathrooms, basements, and attics. They must have a moisture conditions and food sources.

Threats

Silverfish are mainly a nuisance pest, however, they can do a considerable amount of damage to paper products such as books, wall paper, ect. and they can contaminate human foods. On paper products, their feeding will leave irregular marks and yellow stains. Human food can be contaminated by their body scales and droppings.
