Brown-banded cockroaches prefer darkness and can be found throughout structures but prefer drier locations and areas above 80 degrees F. Brown-banded cockroach females carry their egg capsule for one to two days then attaches it to a protective surface such as furniture. Each capsule will produce about 18 eggs and females can product about 14 capsules in their lifetime.
Brown-banded cockroaches tend be found in homes, apartments, hotels, and hospital rooms. They are frequently transported in furniture and rapidly spread throughout buildings. They are generally found in the warmer parts of the buildings. Preferred locations indoors include beneath tables, chairs, tables, chests, picture frames, moldings, and in rough plaster on walls. to prefer higher locations than most cockroach species and are often found in upper cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms.
Brownbanded cockroaches can cause damage from feeding and harboring in pantries. They contain protozoa and bacteria that can cause diseases such as gastroenteritis and diarrhea. Bacteria and protozoa can be transferred on their legs and bodies by crawling on food, utensils, and food surfaces.
