Although some infested wood has been shipped to other parts of the country, dampwood termites have been unable to establish in these areas.
They are similar to drywood termites in that they have no true worker caste. The work of the colony is performed by reproductives or immature soldiers. These termites create a series of chambers in wood, which are connected by tunnels. These termites swarm in smaller quantities of about 50-60 and they are attracted to light.

DAMPWOOD TERMITE HABITAT
Found throughout the pacific coastal and adjacent states, the desert or semi-arid southwest, and southern Florida, dampwood termites are usually found in buried wood.
Examples of this are shrubs, young trees, logs, stumps, dead trees, fence posts and utility poles.
PEST THREAT LEVEL
Dampwood termites are not commonly found in structures because of their need for excessive moisture.
However, it is more prevalent in housing developments that have been established on citrus groves and common scenarios. It is necessary to prevent conditions that would attract dampwood termites to a structure, as they can cause serious property damage.
