4 Ways to Get Rid of Roaches

Cockroaches are one of the most common household pests. And unfortunately, it can be a challenge to get rid of them. These insects average between one-half to three inches in length and can be attracted to your home for various reasons. Thankfully, there are several prevention methods that you can employ to prevent an infestation of cockroaches. Keeping your home clean and properly storing your food is one of the best ways to keep the cockroaches away.

But how do you get cockroaches out of your home if they are already taking up residence?

Check out These 4 Steps to Get Rid of Cockroaches

The chances are that you don’t want cockroaches in your home. If that’s the case for you, be sure to check out our list of four steps to get rid of roaches in your house.

1. Use boric acid to combat roaches

Boric acid is a compound that is found in clothing detergent and toothpaste. And, it is one of the best ways to get rid of roaches. Unfortunately, when boric acid is not applied professionally, it can be subject to disturbance by ceiling fans and basic air currents, thus sending the hazardous chemical into areas where your pets and children play and sleep. This said, though boric acid is quite dangerous and toxic to roaches, it is low in toxicity to humans. Regardless, it is better to be safe than sorry.

2. Gel bait and bait stations can help reduce the roach population in your home

Gel bait is a highly effective roach killer. It usually comes in a tube so that you can apply the gel under baseboards, in cracks and crevices, and in tight areas that tend to attract a high number of roaches. Keep in mind that though gel roach bait is highly effective, it will also mean that you will start finding dead insects lying throughout your home. Use the bait stations to help lure roaches to the station to feed on the poisonous bait. Just be thoughtful on where you place these stations, as the toxic bait can be harmful to pets and children.

3.Close gaps with caulk to prevent further roach infestation

Though glue traps help lessen the existing roach population in your home, traps don’t get rid of cockroaches on the outside trying to make their way inside. If you want to prevent a roach infestation from worsening, you can use caulk to fill potential entry points. This includes gaps between entry holes, tiles and walls, and small crevices. You may also want to try using weather-stripping on your window seals and door seals.

4.Use glue strips to identify severe roach infestations

Take a trip to your local hardware store and pick up some roach glue strips. While you are there, pick up some caulk, weather-stripping, gel bait and bait stations, and boric acid powder, as these items will help with the following steps that we have for you below. Once you stock up on these recommended supplies, use a flashlight to search areas that might be attractive to roaches. Roach infestations tend to occur most frequently behind your refrigerator, under the sinks in your kitchen and bathrooms, in crevices within your kitchen cabinets and shelving, in closet door corners, and in your bathroom cabinets and closets. As you inspect with your flashlight, you can determine the best places to place these roach glue strips.

During Treatments

Remember, after you have set the strips, be sure to check back every couple of days over the next week. Roach glue strips placed in high-traffic areas will catch a fair number of roaches and tell you where you need the most treatment in the future.
